Chabrouh Dam: The Best Easy Walk Near Faraya
Chabrouh Dam walk near Faraya: an easy 2 km reservoir loop for families, open year-round, no shade, and why you should not swim.
What to Know
- About 2 km, easy grade, suitable for children and older walkers.
- No tree cover, go early or late from May to September.
- Do not swim in the reservoir (steep sides, no supervision, drinking water).
- Combine with the Saint Charbel statue on the ridge above.
If you want one walk near Faqra that suits almost anyone, grandparents, small children, someone who hasn't walked anywhere in a year, this is it.
Four hundred and thirty-four reviews, averaging 4.5, and it's open around the clock.
The walk
Roughly two kilometres up to the dam. You can park below the gate and walk the road, or take the stone steps for a shorter, steeper route. Once you're at the top, there's a path along the dam wall and a loop that runs around the reservoir.
The grade is easy throughout. There's no scrambling, no exposure, and nothing technical.
For more, you can climb the slopes above for longer loops with real elevation. The reservoir loop stays gentle.
The thing everyone forgets
There is no tree cover. None, effectively, along the whole route.
From May to September this matters a great deal. Sun cream, a hat, water. People underestimate it because it's only two kilometres, and then they're walking an exposed reservoir at 1,500 metres in July.
Go early or go late.
When to go
Spring, the water is at its highest and the slopes green up. Autumn, the light is best and the temperature ideal. Winter, striking, and the access road can ice. Summer, beautiful, but early morning or evening only.
With children
One of the better family walks in the area. The path is wide, the grade is gentle, and there's a clear turnaround point.
Don't swim. People do; the water is a reservoir with steep sides and no supervision, and it isn't worth it.
Nearby
The Saint Charbel statue looks down over this same reservoir from the ridge above, do both in a morning. Tarik Al Nahel and the Chabrouh restaurants are close by for lunch after.
