Swimming Near Faqra: Pools, Clubs and Cliffside Options
Where to swim near Faqra: RedRock's shared infinity pools, Faqra Club, SAPA, hotel pools at Mzaar, and why not to swim in the Chabrouh reservoir.
What to Know
- RedRock pools: mid-June to 30 September, 10:00–19:00, guests only.
- Best months to swim: late June and September (warm, quiet).
- Sun at 1,600 m burns faster than the beach, pack cream.
- Do not swim in the Chabrouh reservoir.
You have a shared infinity pool two minutes from the door in summer. Everything else nearby is optional, and some of it needs a call ahead.
The options
RedRock shared pools, seasonal, quiet, infinity-edge with a valley view. For residents and guests of the village. Busiest at weekends in July and August, close to empty midweek in June and September.
Faqra Club pools, bigger and the main summer draw for the club. Access depends on membership arrangements; call ahead rather than turning up. Valet parking is a recurring frustration.
SAPA, a pool built on a cliff edge, with food, drinks and a party atmosphere from 17:00. This is a day out rather than a swim.
Hotel pools at Mzaar, the InterContinental has a heated pool, useful in cooler months. Ask about non-resident access.
River swimming in the valleys below, in spring and early summer when there's flow. Cold, and unsupervised.
What not to do
Don't swim in the Chabrouh reservoir. People do. It has steep sides, no supervision, and it's a water supply. Not worth it.
The season
Broadly late spring through early autumn. Pools are drained and closed in winter.
Best time: late June and September. Warm enough to swim, cool enough to be comfortable, and nobody there.
August has the warmest water and the biggest crowds.
Practical
Sun protection at altitude is stronger than at the beach. You will burn faster than you expect around a pool at 1,600 metres.
Bring a layer for after. The air is cool even in August.
Confirm access before planning a day around any facility that isn't where you're staying.
